The Photo Lineup from the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show

At the annual Consumer Electronics Show, companies from across the world gather to parade their new gadgets. There were many bright spots in this year’s conference, but the photography technology displayed at the 2011 CES may have outshined them all. The following list identifies and expounds upon several of the most dashing cameras at the event.

  • Casio Tryx: The all-white and flip-capable Tryx is one of the sleekest looking devices you’ll find at CES. It’s compact in size and includes only two buttons. Most of the Tryx’s function is performed with the use of a large touchscreen. Not only is the Tryx slick, but it also packs a punch. It is able to take high-speed video and includes an ingenious CMOS sensor.
  • Samsung SH100: Although it looks like any other digital camera, the SH100 is wireless. Wireless camera use means automatic transfer of photo files to your computer, your grandma’s computer or directly to your Facebook album. With a price tag of $200, it’s also one of the best bargains from CES.
  • Sony Cyber-shot TX10: Sony’s ocean-blue compact camera is able to do what the color suggests: go underwater. The TX10 can supposedly sustain itself in up to 16 feet below water. It can be dropped from 5 feet and also repels dust. It’s a rugged camera with style.
  • Sony HDR-TD10 camcorder: In keeping with the 3D craze of late, Sony’s newest camcorder supports 3D viewing and shoots in high definition. There’s nothing special about the camcorder in the looks department, but it follows the trend of 3D everything.
  • Canon A1200: The most special thing about Canon’s A1200 is its use of what some consider old technology: the viewfinder. The A1200 repositions the viewfinder back to its rightful location, giving the photography nerds something for which to be thankful.
  • Olympus TG-610: Just one of the few so-called “rugged” cameras, the TG-610 certainly looks the part. You can drop it, throw it, and do all the other tests of durability — the TG-610 is truly rugged. It also has the ability to capture 3D images without purchasing an extra 3D lens.
