This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) brought out all the best new toys for grown-ups. Visitors and industry insiders were treated to new tablet PCs, the latest in smartphones and all the apps that stand to be incredibly popular in coming years. Programs that combine functionality with hands free usage in cars are always popular. But this year’s CES was dominated by something that is often overlooked: headphones.
The major theme among the new headphones displayed this year was the attachment of a major musical name. Artistic enterprises as diverse as the House of Marley and Ludicris to Miles Davis had their names attached to new headphone offerings. Industry insiders are holding off their verdicts on the functionality of these products so the shape and style of these devices are getting judged. And with big celebrity names attached to them, you know that the style is considered a major point for criticism and sales.
The Sleek headphones, sold by 50 Cent, are an attractive pair that both blend into the outfit and stand on their own. Branded with a stylish blue S on the side, this model is designed for DJs and others who make their headphones a major part of their trade. The headphones associated with the late great Miles Davis are horn-shaped ear buds that have metal accents with a silhouette of the legendary trumpet player. The blue, gold and grey colors work together to make a pair of headphones that double as a fashion statement. The House of Marley offered at least four different headphones aimed at different users and price ranges. Many of these offerings incorporated wood into the design which makes for an interesting accent on a product that’s typically associated with copper and black fabric. All are stylish in different ways which means they have effectively created a headphone for almost every type of listener.
