HD to LCD–You Decide

Content

HD TV and LCD are two competing technologies. Both have similar characteristics, such as crystal clear image and vivid color. Despite of the similarities there are differences in these two that will make you lean one way or the other.

HD has thousand of pixels cells which allow electronic pulses to excite natural gases, then to glow and produce light. This light gives off the proper amount of red, blue, green and yellow in each cell. Each cell works as a microscopic light bulb. If you look closely at an HD TV you can see each pixel cell and the collaborations of colors. LCD on the hand has a matrix of thin-film transistors supplying voltage to liquid-crystal filled cells between two sheets of glass.

Some of the top HD TVs that have high ratings on the market are:

Samsung PN50C8000 Plasma with a 94.5% rating

LG 55LE5500 LED TV with a 91/100% rating

Panasonic TC-P54G25 Plasma with a 90.87% rating

These TV’s can ran you anywhere from $600 to $1500. The prices have gone down tremendously even from five years ago!

In terms of LCD TVs, the top selling as of January of 2011 are:

Samsung LN32C350

Sony KDL-55EX710

LG 32LD550

LCDs rang from $300 to $2400 depending on the size. Since LCD is a bit more versatile, manufacturing wise then HDs, they come in various sizes anywhere between 27 inches to 60 inches.

When shopping for a LCD or HD, always keep in mind the purpose the TV is serving in the home or area. If you are buying for a smaller room, you might want to look into LCD because of the broader selections in sizes. HD’s are more welcomed in rooms with natural light verses LCD that can take just about any room lighting that is thrown at it. Either way, you can’t go wrong with the image and clarity of both sets.
