This could mean making sure you have a router in place in order to set up your network or having the right operating system to be able to handle the updates you need for your computer. Technology comes in a variety of shapes and designs and it is up to you to be able to determine if you will be able to do what you want with the current hardware that you have.
This could be as simple as the phone you are currently using.
