The world of computers and its development over the past few decades has redefined the way we look at life. Be it medicine, science, tele-communications, health and hygiene, agriculture, manufacturing or space science, computer have invaded every sphere of our life and it is almost impossible to think of any job that could be done without the aid of a computer.
One such area where computers are redefining and creating paradigm shifts is the field of education. Schools are seeing much better use of computer for educating the little children. Chalk and talk, which was and still is the norm in many schools is being slowly but steadily being replaced by the use of computers as a means of education. Computers are slowly taking over as teachers and are being liked by children and parents alike because of its capability to go beyond the defined norms of chalk and talk teaching. A nursery student would be much happier and more participative if he or she sees a colorful song and dance being played out on the computer with all the alphabets also being a part of it. It makes teaching that much interesting and less monotonous.
Coming to slightly grownup children, the combination of internet and computer is opening new vistas of learning in education. Any topic be it English, Science, History, Geography or Match, can be learnt much better and with more variety at ones’ command with the help of computer and internet. Online discussion forums, downloadable material, online problem solving techniques, self assessment techniques and many more such innovative and unique methods of teaching are making computers an instant hit with all grownup children.
However, in spite of the tremendous growth of computers in the field of education, the personal bonding between a student and a teacher is something no machine can offer and the coming years will see the combination of man and machine offering newer and more advanced methods of teaching.
